Texas regent contacted Nick Saban’s agent, according to report

Hey, Nick Saban’s about to get a raise.

Shortly after Alabama’s victory in the 2013 BCS Championship Game, two University of Texas regents -- one current and one former -- reached out to Nick Saban’s agent about Saban potentially replacing Mack Brown, according to an AP report. There’s no indication that Saban’s looking to leave Alabama.

Regent Wallace Hall and former regent Tom Hicks reportedly were on a call with Nick Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, after an initial proposition from a person Hall refused to name. The report then adds that Brown was told about the call a few days later, but insisted he was not yet ready to retire, effectively ending the discussions there.

It should be noted that Hall and UT President Bill Powers have reportedly had ongoing issues:

The news -- and timing -- of this report is obviously even more interesting considering the current situation in Austin. Texas is 1-2 on the year, and although the Longhorns could still win the Big XII, they have looked unimpressive as a whole and the rushing defense is ranked near the bottom of the country. The report likely says more about Texas than it does about Saban.

Texas will be back in action this weekend, starting conference play against Kansas State.
