North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech final score: Yellow Jackets come back for 28-20 win

The Yellow Jackets reeled off 21 straight in the second half to come back and beat the Tar Heels in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech looked like they could be in trouble early, but they weathered a literal storm and scored 21 straight points to power their way to a 28-20 win over North Carolina.

The Tar Heels looked like they had the upper hand in the first quarter, getting out to a 13-0 lead. Georgia Tech pulled a score back to make it 13-7, but it nearly didn’t happen as David Sims was ruled to have crossed the goal line before fumbling. That may have saved the game for the Yellow Jackets.

North Carolina entered halftime with a 20-7 lead, but the second half belonged to Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets scored three straight touchdowns in the first 17 minutes of the second half, and were able to keep the Tar Heels at bay in the fourth quarter.

Vad Lee went 7-12 for 104 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown. David Sims and Robert Godhigh both rushed for 100 yards, and Sims had two scores to his credit as well. Bryn Renner went 14-29 for 218 yards, two touchdowns and a pick for the Heels, and tight end Eric Ebron caught six passes for 108 yards and a highlight reel touchdown.

Box Score Hero:

It was a balanced effort for the Yellow Jackets, but Vad Lee was the straw the stirred the drink.

Rankings Ramifications:

Neither team was ranked coming into the game, but at 3-0, Georgia Tech could sneak into the rankings.

But Did They Cover?

Georgia Tech was a seven point favorite at kickoff, so they just covered.
