Was this Georgia Tech touchdown vs. UNC actually a fumble?

Georgia Tech got on the board in the second quarter when David Sims scored from one yard out to make it 13-7. However, the wet conditions and slippery football nearly ruined things for the Yellow Jackets.

Sims looked like he lost the ball as he was crossing the goal line, but the play was so close that there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn on review.

Had the play been ruled a fumble, the Tar Heels would have had the ball with an opportunity to go up by three scores, which would make a comeback rather difficult for Georgia Tech’s option offense. Instead, it’s still anyone’s game.
