Michigan vs. UConn final score: Wolverines escape with 24-21 win

The Wolverines struggled to put away another inferior team on Saturday, but they did manage to leave Connecticut with a win.

The Michigan Wolverines have laid two consecutive eggs against overmatched competition, but they remain undefeated after a 24-21 comeback win over UConn in Hartford.

The Wolverines got things off on the right foot with a first quarter touchdown run from Devin Gardner, but the Huskies would come back to take a 14-7 halftime lead on two Chandler Whitmer touchdown passes, the second of which came after a botched punt gave the Huskies possession inside the Michigan 10-yard-line.

Gardner ran for it on fourth down and two from inside the UConn 25-yard-line with just over 11 minutes remaining, but he came up short. The Huskies took over on downs, but Whitmer sailed a ball and Desmond Morgan made a ridiculous catch to come down with the interception. Fitzgerald Toussaint would wind up in the end zone on the next play, tying the game at 21.

Michigan would take the lead with a 21-yard field goal from Brendan Gibbons with just under five minutes remaining. UConn had one final shot but weren't able to convert a fourth and 29 to keep their drive alive.

Box Score Hero:

Coming in with only 271 yard of total offense, no one for Michigan looked great. However, Fitzgerald Toussaint was the key to the Wolverine comeback, carrying the ball 24 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications:

Michigan probably won’t get punished for this close win, and will remain at 15th in both the AP and USA Today polls. UConn will remain unranked.

But Did They Cover?

The Wolverines were a 19-point favorite, so no, they did not cover the spread.
