Miami, Savannah State agree to 12-minute 4th quarter with Canes up 77-7

FIU and Louisville may have had a running clock, but Savannah State and Miami will not be joining them.

The Hurricanes and the Tigers will play to the bitter, slightly shortened end -- head coaches Al Golden and Earnest Wilson have agreed to a 12-minute 4th quarter despite a 77-7 score.

In a day already full of blowouts, there already was a running clock game earlier today between FIU and Louisville. Florida A&M and Ohio State could have qualified as well, as the Buckeyes eventually rolled to a 76-0 win. Savannah State opted for a slightly less orthodox method, choosing instead to chop three minutes out of game time.

Surprisingly enough, 70 points isn’t even the worst deficit the Tigers have faced -- last season, they lost 84-0 to Oklahoma State and trailed 55-0 against Florida State before the game was called off due to weather.

Miami’s 77-point explosion marks the highest total in school history. As of the early fourth quarter, Miami has intercepted Savannah State quarterbacks four times, held them to 1-of-12 on third down and piled up 614 yards of offense.

Without the running clock, expect those figures to get even uglier.
