Colorado State vs. Alabama final score: Crimson Tide hold off Rams, 31-6

It wasn’t a particularly impressive victory, but Alabama did more than enough to keep Colorado State at bay.

The final score looks plenty comfortable, but the outcome of Alabama’s 31-6 victory over Colorado State remained in doubt through the end of the third quarter, when the Crimson Tide’s lead was a mere 11 points.

Though Nick Saban’s Alabama teams aren’t necessarily known for their overwhelming offensive prowess, the combination of having a home game against Colorado State and the memory of scoring 49 points last week in College Station had to have Crimson Tide fans feeling like they might get to witness a bona fide blowout today in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

But Alabama let CSU hang around pretty late into this contest, and the Rams had the ball and a chance to make it a one-score ball game with less than 12 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. But a fumble by Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson gave Alabama the ball at the CSU 30. On the very next play, AJ McCarron connected with DeAndrew White to put the Crimson Tide up 24-6 and put the game out of reach.

Box Score Hero: In a game that Alabama wasn’t nearly as productive as they expected to be, AJ McCarron (20/26, 258 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) made just enough plays to keep the Tide from getting into too much danger and delivered the final blow that put the game on ice.

Rankings Ramifications: Though there might be murmurs among Alabama fans about the Tide not looking as impressive as they might have hoped, Nick Saban’s squad should remain #1 in the polls.

But Did They Cover?: 31 minus 6 is 25, so Alabama did not cover the 39-point spread.
