BYU’s Jamaal Williams stabilized, carted off with possible neck injury

The sophomore running back took a hard hit late in the third quarter and was taken to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation.

Update: Great news.

Late in the third quarter against Utah, BYU’s sophomore running back Jamaal Williams suffered a possible neck injury after he ran up the middle on a fourth and one play.

After showing apparent movement in his arms, Williams remained motionless on the field for several minutes while being attended to by the training staff. His helmet was unscrewed, and he was eventually carted off and transported to a nearby medical facility for re-evaluation. The crowd fell silent and most of his teammates gathered nearby on the field.

ESPN is reporting that Williams’ mother says he has movement in all his limbs and extremities, which is tremendous news.

The 6’0, 200 pound sophomore is a key player in the BYU rushing attack. He has recorded 326 yards on 63 carries this season, leading the Cougars.
