BYU’s Jamaal Williams released from hospital after scary incident vs. Utah

After a scare Saturday, Jamaal Williams is doing well.

BYU Cougars running back Jamaal Williams suffered a concussion and a severe stinger Saturday against the Utah Utes, according to a BYU release. He was discharged from the Utah Valley Medical Center on Sunday after staying overnight for observation.

Williams was carted off the field in the third quarter of Saturday’s game after a run up the middle. He lay motionless on the field for several minutes, showing some motion in his arms, and he was carted off the field after having his neck stabilized.

He was taken to the hospital to undergo a number of tests to determine if any spinal injuries had occurred. He remained alert throughout, according to the release. The school said he is doing "very well," and his status for Friday's game against the Middle Tenn. St. Blue Raiders is "day-to-day."

Williams has averaged 126 rushing yards through three games for the Cougars, ranking 10th in the country. BYU fell to 1-2 with a 20-13 loss to the Utes on Saturday.
