How to watch SMU vs. TCU 2013: Preview, TV schedule, odds and more

TCU will try to get back on track against a regional rival after starting off the season with two early losses.

The TCU Horned Frogs and SMU Mustangs meet this weekend in a battle of Dallas-area teams looking to pick up regional bragging rights.

Neither team has gotten off to a very strong start with a combined record of 2-4. That being said, regional rivalries always bring the best out of teams and the Mustangs will look to avenge last year’s tough loss at home. The Horned Frogs have plenty of talent, but putting it all together for 60 minutes has been a problem for Gary Patterson’s bunch in September.

The numbers

Rankings and records: Neither team is anywhere close to being ranked in the top 25, and a win won’t change that this weekend. When these two schools met last season, TCU came away with the 24-16 win.

Vegas: TCU opened up as 19.5-point favorites, according to Odds Shark.

Weather: There’s a chance for showers in the forecast. Temperatures should be in the mid-80s at kickoff.

Three names to know

Garrett Gilbert: The former Texas Longhorns QB is off to a great start in 2013. He has not only thrown for 1,015 yards and two touchdowns, but also leads the team with 30 carries and 103 yards on the ground.

Trevone Boykin: Boykin took over for the injured Casey Pachall two weeks ago. The sophomore quarterback can move the football with both his arm and legs, throwing for 397 yards and rushing for 149 more.

B.J. Catalon: Catalon leads the Horned Frogs with 169 rushing yards and three touchdowns despite carrying the ball just 28 times through three games.

Two things at stake

With both teams entering Saturday with 1-2 records, they’ll need a win in the biggest way possible. TCU has the talent to compete in the Big 12, but the Horned Frogs need to start improving on both sides of the ball. As the heavy favorites playing at home, the Frogs should be able to have their way with the Mustangs. A win for SMU would be a potential season-saver.

How to witness

TV: Noon ET, FOX Sports 1

Radio: WBAP Radio 96.7 FM, 820 AM and KTCU 88.7 FM will carry the game across the Dallas area.
