Georgia leads LSU 24-17 at the half

After 30 minutes between the hedges, the Georgia Bulldogs lead the LSU Tigers 24-17. The game has been a tale of two quarters: After 15 minutes, it looked to be a last-possession-wins shootout. The defenses took charge in the second, though, and the offenses slowed to a crawl.

Georgia took the opening kickoff 75 yards in just eight plays, capped with a five-yard touchdown pass to Michael Bennett. LSU answered back quickly when Zach Mettenberger connected with Kadron Boone on a 48-yard touchdown pass. Mettenberger extended the LSU lead with a second touchdown pass to Boone six minutes later, but Georgia evened things on a perfect-placed pass from Aaron Murray to Chris Conley on a post route to the back of the end zone.

Georgia kicked a field goal midway through the second quarter to retake the lead after a 10-play drive stalled inside the LSU 10 yard line, but LSU quickly answered with a long field goal of their own. Georgia took the halftime lead when Murray dove across the goal line for a touchdown, cashing in on a pass interference call that gave the Bulldogs first-and-goal from two yards out.

Georgia running back Todd Gurley left with an injury in the second quarter, but it has done little to stop the Georgia running attack. The Bulldogs have 143 yards on just 21 carries with Keith Marshall filling in capably for the injured star. Murray has been his usual solid self, going 11 of 19 for 163 yards, the two aforementioned touchdown throws, and one interception.

Mettenberger, a former Georgia player whose mom works for the Bulldogs as an administrative assistant, has been stellar. He is 10 of 15 for 142 yards and two touchdowns. The running game has been nonexistent for the Tigers, though, leading to them currently trailing.
