ULM QB Kolton Browning out for the season with leg injury

The Warhawks will have to regroup after the loss of their star quarterback.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Louisiana-Monroe starting quarterback Kolton Browning will miss the rest of the 2013 season because of a leg injury, according to head coach Todd Berry, via ULM beat writer Tabby Soignier. Browning suffered the injury in the Warhawks' loss to Tulane on Saturday, and was spotted with crutches later on.

Redshirt sophomore Brayle Brown took over for Browning against Tulane and he’ll move into the starting role going forward, according to Berry. Brown has attempted just 33 passes in his brief college career. True freshman Brian Williams, who has not attempted a pass this season, also is expected to see time now that Browning is finished.

Browning was in the midst of a down season relative to his production in 2012, but this is still a loss the 2-3 Warhawks could ill afford. The multi-year starter was the 2012 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and helped the team make national headlines with a season-opening win over Arkansas.

Browning will finish 2013 with 967 yards passing, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He also ran for 91 yards.
