Alabama WR Kenny Bell not retiring from college football after all

Update: According to CBS Sports’ Jeremy Fowler, a lack of playing time was a factor in Bell’s decision, and a return to the team is still in play.

Update 2: Nick Saban says he gave Bell a personal day and expects him back.

Alabama receiver Kenny Bell announced on Tuesday via Twitter that he is retiring from football. The redshirt senior already has earned his undergraduate degree, and he says it’s time for him to move on and focus on his family:

Bell didn’t catch a pass in the Crimson Tide’s season-opening win over Virginia Tech, but he has been a solid role player for the team in the past. He finished last season third on the squad with 431 yards receiving, and that came on just 17 receptions, which comes to an average of more than 25 yards per catch. He has 36 career receptions.

The school has yet to confirm Bell’s departure from the team, but it’s a topic that Nick Saban figures to address after practice Tuesday.
