Ole Miss vs. Alabama results: Tide and Rebel faithful impressed with ‘Bama defense

It appears Alabama’s defense certainly made an impression on all who watched the game.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

Top-ranked Alabama showed why they are the two-time defending national champions Saturday. The Crimson Tide ran the ball well and played smothering defense to easily triumph over the visiting Ole Miss Rebels, 25-0.

The Tide got off to a slow start offensively, taking a 9-0 lead into the half on three Cade Foster field goals (including kicks from 53 and 42 yards out). That changed quickly in the second half, though, when T.J. Yeldon scored a 68-yard touchdown less than a minute into the third quarter after putting on a ridiculous spin move.

Alabama's defense provided some scoring, sacking Bo Wallace in the end zone for a safety. Kenyan Drake, Yeldon's back-up, ran 50 yards for a touchdown in the fourth.

The Ghost of Jay Cutler from Red Cup Rebellion noted the excellent play of Alabama’s defense and Ole Miss’s inability to execute in the shutout loss for the Rebels.

In short, Alabama had a great defensive gameplan and executed it to near perfection. Our Rebs had their backs to the wall for the entire game, and missed seemingly every opportunity to swing momentum in their favor (such as the defense forcing three fumbles but recovering none of them).

Bammer at Roll Bama Roll was very pleased with the way Alabama’s defense played against an Ole Miss team that expected to “score points.”

To say the entire defense played with a fire in their belly for four quarters would be a gross understatement. Outside of a few well designed plays by Ole Miss, the defense as a whole played strong at the point of attack, was able to get pressure on Wallace and generally kept everything in front of them. That’s called textbook defense against a spread rushing attack like Ole Miss.
