South Carolina vs. Georgia 2013 injuries: Three starters out, one questionable

As many as four starters could miss the big SEC showdown (4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Grant Halverson

When No. 11 Georgia hosts No. 6 South Carolina in a marquee matchup Saturday, both teams will be banged up, as two Gamecock starters could miss the game, while two Bulldog starters will.

South Carolina linebacker Cedrick Cooper, who missed nearly the entire preseason and the team’s opener against North Carolina, will play.

A large group of players are questionable for the Gamecocks -- center Cody Waldrop (foot), safety Kadetrix Marcus (shoulder), offensive tackle Cody Gibson (knee), defensive end Gerald Turner (ankle) and offensive tackle Mike Matulis (shoulder).

The most notable name there is Waldrop, the team's starting center. If Waldrop can not play, the Gamecocks will have to rely on redshirt freshman Clayton Stadnik, who is nearly 40 pounds lighter than South Carolina's usual starting center - and it could be one of the key factors in the game.

For the Gamecocks, safety Kadetrix Marcus and defensive end Devin Washington will miss the game with a concussion. Marcus was expected to start for the team, and T.J. Gurley will take his place. Washington, a true freshman, also missed South Carolina’s opener against UNC.

Wide receiver Bruce Ellington, a dual-sport athlete who caught one pass for 17 yards against North Carolina, will likely play.

Georgia will be without wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who suffered a season-ending injury against Clemson in the opener. Mitchell was the Bulldogs' leading returning receiver after catching 40 passes for 572 yards and four touchdowns in 2012. He joins wide receiver Tramel Terry and cornerback Reggie Wilkerson as Georgia players sidelined for the season.

The Bulldogs will see the return of suspended safety Josh Harvey-Clemons, but kicker Marshall Morgan will remain suspended and will not play in the game.

Wide receiver Jonathon Rumph (hamstring), running back Brendan Douglas (knee), safety Corey Moore (knee), and cornerback Shaquille Fluker (back) are all likely to return.

Cornerbacks Brendan Langley (leg) and Shaq Wiggins (flu) will also likely play.
