D.J. Fluker says Alabama practices are as tough as NFL games

The former All-American tackle was named to the All-Rookie team with the Chargers this season.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

San Diego Chargers offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, fresh off a successful rookie campaign in which he started at both tackle positions and earned All-Rookie honors, said Tuesday in a radio interview that his college practices at Alabama were as tough, if not tougher, than NFL games.

“Playing at Alabama, practice-wise, is probably a lot harder than playing in the NFL,” Fluker said.. Being under coach (Nick) Saban and the practices he makes each and every day was like an NFL game. That prepared me the most, being in that environment every single day ... Coach made everything organized, just like being in the NFL.”

A three-year starter at Alabama, Fluker was a blue-chip recruit who turned into an All-American right tackle with the Tide. He was eventually picked 11th overall by the Chargers in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The last time Fluker allegedly did something NFL-ish at Alabama, it was tweeting “Yeah I took $ n college so wat.” The last time Saban did something NFL-ish, it was posting a 15-17 record in two years as the head coach of the Dolphins.
