Michigan reportedly hires Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier

The two-year Crimson Tide coordinator is headed north to replace Al Borges.

US PRESSWIRE

The Michigan Wolverines have hired Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier for the same position, according to reports from Football Scoop’s Scott Roussel and CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman:

The news comes just hours after Michigan announced the departure of offensive coordinator Al Borges.

Nussmeier spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator at Alabama after Nick Saban named him to replace Jim McElwain. Nussmeier won a national championship in 2012 with the Crimson Tide. This season, Nussmeier’s offense was 17th nationally in scoring and posted more than 30 points in 10 games.

Prior to joining Saban’s staff, Nussmeier was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Washington for three seasons under now-USC coach Steve Sarkisian. He spent one season as offensive coordinator at Fresno State, and had a three-year stint as quarterbacks coach at Michigan State from 2003-05.

The speculation now turns to Tuscaloosa, where an unemployed offensive mastermind set up residency just last month.
