You know what you’re going to get from Iowa and Indiana, but both of those teams have been difficult to figure out this year. Iowa is a defensive-minded team that’s going to move the ball methodically (and sometimes not at all) on offense, while Indiana is known for having a high-powered offense but rarely playing defense.

Who will prevail in this contrast of styles?

Both teams have had breakthroughs this year, with Iowa using an efficient offense to come back to beat Pitt and Indiana coming away with an impressive with against Missouri on the road. However, they’ve both had their low points — Iowa in a loss to Iowa State and Indiana in a loss to Bowling Green. Now, the Hawkeyes and Hoosiers will face off to try to get some momentum going in the Big Ten.

Two things at stake
Is Iowa really a contender in the Big Ten West? A lot of people picked the Hawkeyes to win the division in the preseason, but they haven’t lived up to the hype yet. A loss here could turn this season into a major disappointment.
Indiana had a nice win against Missouri, but the Hoosiers have also lost to Bowling Green and Maryland, and they haven’t shown enough consistency to be taken seriously in the Big Ten East. Will they even make a bowl game? A win here would go a long way toward that goal.
One big matchup
Iowa offense vs. Indiana defense: Iowa has a solid defense, but Indiana is going to score. It’s going to be on the Iowa offense to keep up against the Hoosiers, and that has proven to be difficult for a unit that has been afraid to take shots downfield. The Hawkeyes will be debuting a two-quarterback system that could be a recipe for disaster, and they will need to open up the playbook more in this game than they have to date if they’re going to win. We could learn a lot about that unit.
