If you like offense, then this is probably the game you’ll want to tune into this week. Both Texas Tech and West Virginia are offense-focused teams that sometimes let things slip a bit too much on the defensive end, so we’re sure to see lots of points in Lubbock for this one. The game will also feature two eccentric coaches, with Dana Holgorsen representing the Mountaineers and Kliff Kingsbury representing the Red Raiders.

Which defense will be the least bad in the game of vulnerable defenses?

But both coaches have trended a bit in opposite directions this year. Holgorsen came under fire after a 4-8 season last year, but the Mountaineers are 3-2 and look much-improved this season — they even played Alabama close in the season-opening game in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Texas Tech has struggled to a 2-3 start, and the Red Raiders have had some disappointing performances against Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Kansas State. Both teams need this win badly to make this a positive season.

Two things at stake
This could shape up to be a nice bounce-back year for West Virginia, but the Mountaineers need to win this game to show they’re a force to be reckoned with in the Big 12.
Texas Tech could be in danger of missing out on a bowl game if it loses this game. The Red Raiders need a win to get back on the right track.
One big matchup
Texas Tech offense vs. West Virginia defense: As much as Texas Tech’s offense has been touted under Kliff Kingsburg, it’s put together some rough performances this year. West Virginia is going to score a lot of points, in part because the Mountaineers have a good offense and in part because the Texas Tech offense is terrible, and that isn’t going to change this week. To have any chance in this one, the Red Raiders are going to have to be able to survive in a shootout. It’s definitely possible against a West Virginia defense that can be shaky, but it might take Tech’s best offensive performance of the year.
