Penn State loses to Michigan after this questionable offside call

Michigan won a game! Although Penn State fans won’t be too happy after this call.

Everything -- EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING! -- went wrong in the last two minutes of Michigan-Penn State. The Nittany Lions (down three points) had the ball on their own 1-yard line after a sack, let 30 seconds run off the clock, THEN called a timeout to avoid a delay of game when the penalty would have cost them only a half-yard, then took an intentional safety.

After the intentional safety, they tried an onside kick and recovered it! But they were called offside, and had to rekick. But was anybody offside?

It’s close, that’s for sure. Probably would’ve been more fun to let Penn State have the recovery and then try for a game-winning touchdown, but sadly what’s fun isn’t necessarily what matters to referees. And, hey, Penn State did a *lot* wrong to get themselves here, so it’s not like the refs were the only contributing factor to the loss.
