Late-night Hawaii football is a weekly tradition, but this week the Warriors travel away from home to face conference foes San Diego State.
How to watch Hawaii-San Diego State: Game guide, TV schedule, odds
Will a favorite in the West emerge?

The Warriors opened the season on a poor note, winning just one of their first five games -- a three-point home victory over FCS Northern Iowa. That 1-4 record could be a bit misleading, as two of those losses were by one possession (against Pac-12 foes Washington State and Oregon State) and two were by two possessions (Colorado and Rice). Norm Chow’s squad got back on the winning side last time out with a 10-point win over Wyoming in its conference opener, and has a chance to extend its early division lead against an inconsistent San Diego State squad.
The Aztecs opened the season with a pair of strong performances, blowing out FCS Northern Arizona and just barely losing at North Carolina. Since then, they’ve gone back and forth -- a loss to Oregon State was followed by a win over UNLV, followed by a loss to Fresno State and a win over New Mexico. They have one of the strongest running games in the conference, and a convincing performance here would improve their stock as a Mountain West contender.

The numbers
Rankings and records: Neither team is ranked. Hawaii is 2-4, with a 1-0 record in conference play placing it atop the West. San Diego State is 3-3, with a 2-1 record in the Mountain West putting it third in the division. The Aztecs hold a 17-9-2 lead in the all-time series, and have won the last two games.
Vegas: San Diego State opened as a 10.5-point favorite. The line has since moved to 7.5.
Weather forecast: 71 degrees and partly cloudy.
Two things at stake
Hawaii could revitalize its season with a second straight conference win.
The West Division is wide open, and a win for San Diego State could make it the favorite.
One big matchup
San Diego State rushing offense vs. Hawaii rushing defense. The Aztecs' two-headed attack has worked quite well for them this season. 5'9, 170-pound sophomore Donnel Pumphrey has 119 rushes for 807 yards and a staggering 11 touchdowns, while 5'8, 200-pound junior Chase Price has 65 carries for 306 yards and two scores. The Aztecs as a team are averaging 5.7 yards per carry and 218.5 rushing yards per game, with a season-high 397 yards on the ground against New Mexico last time out.
Hawaii’s rushing defense has been its strongest area this season, giving up 3.2 yards per carry and 125.8 yards per game on the ground. Only one team has managed to average at least four yards per carry against the Warriors this season -- Oregon State -- and no team has eclipsed 150 yards rushing against them since early September.
