The refereeing in the Baylor-West Virginia game has been a dazzling symphony of incompetence. Former NFL head referee Mike Pereira, visibly flummoxed by the baffling performance of the officials, reached for the actual rulebook to try to make his point about a penalty just on the other side of halftime, the 21st -- 21st! -- of the day:
Big 12 refs have Mike Pereira holding up the rulebook on TV
A soaring exhibition of idiocy, even by college football’s lofty standards.
Not like we can read the book that he’s holding up, but boy, look at all those rules!
Perhaps the greatest example of their incompetence today was right before halftime, when a West Virginia offensive lineman was called for being illegally downfield on a passing play. That play was then reviewed, despite the fact that penalties themselves are not reviewable.
Big 12 refs. They’re here, and we just need to accept it.
