Friday night is the setting for a set of interesting games, led by a late-night get-together between Oregon and Cal. It will be a late start yet again in the Pac-12, so if you live out east, make sure you put some coffee on so you can fully take this one in.
Friday college football schedule: TV times, streaming for Oregon-Cal and 3 others
The Ducks and Bears will be the headliner of a quartet of college football games on Friday night.
South Florida vs. Cincinnati
It’s been a roller-coaster season for Cincinnati. They opened up the season with two straight bye weeks, won two in a row, and then lost three straight, including an emphatic thumping at the hands of Ohio State on Sept. 27th. They finally righted the ship against SMU this past weekend, winning 41-3, and can start another winning streak if they can take care of South Florida.
The 2014 Bulls are much improved over last’s year’s model, but “much improved” only gets them to 3-4 and approaching competence. Still, with a defense that gives up a ghastly 6.72 yards per play (good for 123rd in the country), the Bearcats can’t afford to take anyone lightly.
Troy vs. South Alabama
South Alabama can keep pace in the Sun Belt title race with a win at home over struggling Troy. The Jaguars have won four in a row, and their only losses on the year to date are at the hands of Mississippi State and conference-leading Georgia Southern. USA can run the ball pretty well (4.6 yards per carry and 197.8 yards per game), and that bodes well for their chances against the Troy defense, which can’t really do much of anything well.
BYU vs. Boise State
It's all gone bad for BYU. After they lost quarterback Taysom Hill for the season, they've lost three straight, and dreams of an undefeated season have been put far in the rearview mirror.
Things could get worse too, as they’ve got a tricky game on the road against Boise State to contend with. This is hardly a vintage Bronco team, but they’ve won five of their last six games and can still move the ball and score points fairly well. The Cougars will need a serious effort to keep their losing streak from reaching four games.
Oregon vs. Cal
Oregon travels south to Berkeley to face a highly pesky Cal team that they should not take lightly. The Ducks have to be feeling good about where they are, however. They’ve responded to the Arizona loss by winning two straight in decisive fashion over UCLA and Washington, and are still in play for the College Football Playoff so long as they keep winning.
Cal’s now dropped two straight, including a heartbreaker on Saturday against UCLA. The Bears are considerably better than most predicted this year, but this is probably still a bit too tall an order for Sonny Dykes’ crew.
TV: 10 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1/Fox Sports Go
Odds: The Ducks opened 18-point favorites on the road.
Weather: Partly sunny with a high of 72.
