Jimbo Fisher’s defense of Jameis Winston is apparently a recruiting advantage

It reportedly helped sway a four-star running back to choose Florida State.

Florida State picked up a commitment Monday from four-star running back Jacques Patrick, who reportedly cited head coach Jimbo Fisher’s defense of Jameis Winston as one of the reasons he chose the Seminoles.

Fisher has repeatedly defended Winston, who was investigated for rape and has had other legal and university dust-ups. Tomahawk Nation reports that Fisher and Patrick have a great relationship, in general.

Pretty much everyone in the recruiting industry expected the pick to be Florida State. Patrick has been to Florida State numerous times over the years, is very comfortable with the school and the coaching staff, and has generally behaved as if were a member of the team during the summer camp sessions. With certain recruitments, there’s just very little drama, and this was one of those cases.

Patrick has a great relationship with coach Jimbo Fisher, and FSU is 52-10 under the head coach.
