The Navy SEAL who was portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in “Lone Survivor,” will be the guest for ESPN’s College GameDay in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Saturday ahead of a game between No. 1 Mississippi State and No. 5 Alabama. He’ll contribute picks of Saturday’s big games.

Marcus Luttrell, 39, is best known as the sole survivor of a military mission in Afghanistan that was thwarted by a Taliban ambush in June 2005. He chronicled his experiences in a 2007 novel “Lone Survivor” and he was portrayed by Wahlberg in a movie adaptation of the novel with the same title.

There’s no clear connection between Luttrell and Alabama, as he is from Houston, Texas and attended Sam Houston State University before joining the Navy where he served from 1999 to 2007. Luttrell now works as a motivational speaker and is speaking at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa on Friday as part of his nationwide “Patriot Tour.”

College GameDay host Chris Fowler said on ESPN that one of the motivations for bringing Luttrell on as guest picker is to honor military on the week of Veterans Day. Alabama head coach Nick Saban also said on his weekly radio show that Luttrell will speak to the Crimson Tide football team prior to their game against Mississippi State.

The show will begin at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday morning. Luttrell will join the panel for picks in the final half hour of the show at about 11:30 a.m.
