Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy ‘pursuing’ Florida job, per report

Could this be the job that finally gets the Oklahoma State alum out of Stillwater?

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy may be a serious contender for the Florida job after all. Gundy is ‘pursuing’ the position in Gainesville , Ryan Bartow of 247Sports is reporting.

Vegas already listed Gundy as the odds-on favorite for the job, and it appears they may be on to something here. Gundy nearly left Oklahoma State for an SEC job once before, flirting with the Tennessee opening, but this may finally be the step that gets him out of Stillwater.

A former quarterback at Oklahoma State back when they had Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders, Gundy spent four years as a positional coach with the Cowboys before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 1994. After a few years with Baylor and Maryland, he returned as the Oklahoma State offensive coordinator under Les Miles in 2001, eventually replacing him as the head coach before the 2005 season.

After a 4-7 year to start out his tenure, Gundy has taken the Cowboys to eight straight bowl games with one conference title. They have won double-digit games in three of the past five years.

Gundy didn’t end up winning the job when we let WWE 2K15 decide the Florida coaching race. Marshall head coach Doc Holliday, also rumored to be a significant real-life candidate, ended up taking that one.
