Gary Andersen’s sudden departure from Wisconsin to Oregon State has made waves in the college football world in a short time. SB Nation’s Wisconsin blog, Bucky’s 5th Quarter, mentioned that there’s been “rumblings” about frustration due to the assistant coaching budget, but this is a pretty sudden confirmation that issues did exist.
Wisconsin players react to Gary Andersen leaving for Oregon State
Seems like current players and committed recruits didn’t see this coming.

Assistant coaching salary was also reportedly an issue that caused Bret Bielema to leave Wisconsin for Arkansas prior to the 2013 season.
Here’s what some Wisconsin players had to say:
WOW !!!
— Gordon | 25™ | A01 (@Melvingordon25) December 10, 2014 "Do you plan on leaving anytime soon" "Absolutely not, this is the place I want to be". A conversation I had a couple weeks ago. Smh
— Jake Pickard (@JakePickard2015) December 10, 2014 .... Shocked.

— Derek Watt (@DerekWatt34) December 10, 2014 I am still committed as of now but I will be opening up my recruitment and looking at my other options.
— Nicholas Thomas (@nickbeach_) December 10, 2014 When you are told to go to the academic center and study for finals and later on you hear your coach left... Wow
— Rafael Gaglianone (@rafagaglianone) December 10, 2014 This hurt cause it's about more than Football man. Coach Anderson gave me a chance and believed in us before anyone else did. New start...
— Lubern Figaro (@Lubern5) December 10, 2014 And reaction is starting to come in from Oregon State players, as well.
Welcome to beaver nation Coach Andersen! #GoBeavs
— Dockery (@RahmelDockery) December 10, 2014 Gary Anderson!!!! WELCOME TO CORVALLIS #Nextheadcoach #SorryWisconson
— Jalen Grimble (@GoBigLexi10) December 10, 2014 The focus now for Wisconsin will turn to who replaces Andersen. Nothing concrete has been linked at this point, but two names that will come up immediately are NC State head coach Dave Doeren and Pitt head coach Paul Chryst, who were former Badger assistants under Bret Bielema. Current defensive coordinator Dave Aranda could also get a look, as well as Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. And hey, Bo Pelini hasn’t signed anything yet with Youngstown State.
