Oregon vs. Florida State betting odds and computer prediction

The Oregon Ducks enter the Rose Bowl as big favorites over Florida State.

Oregon will battle Florida State at the Rose Bowl on Thursday, January 1 at 5:00pm ET. The Seminoles are 9-1-1 against the spread in their last 11 bowl game appearances and 6-0 straight up in their last six bowl game appearances. The Seminoles will be a big underdog in the Rose Bowl when they take on the Oregon Ducks.

Florida State is a 9.5-point underdog in the College Football Playoff game at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. While Oregon has looked dominant of late, the defending champions offer too good of a value to pass up on at plus-9.5 at a neutral location, even if the computer thinks they’ll fall just short of covering the spread.

OddsShark Computer Prediction: Florida State 32, Oregon 41.8

En route to a second straight 13-0 SU season, the Florida State Seminoles covered the spread only three times to finish 3-10 ATS. After passing for 4,057 yards, 40 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2013, Jameis Winston was much more inconsistent this year with 3,559 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. The Seminoles may have lacked style points all season long, but they always found ways to win against solid teams like Louisville, Miami, Florida and Georgia Tech.

The Ducks responded to a mid-season loss to Arizona with an extremely impressive 8-0 SU and ATS run through Pac-12 play, capped off by a 51-13 blowout over the Wildcats to exact some revenge. Led by Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, Oregon’s offense averaged 48 points over those eight games. The defense came into its own down the stretch as well, allowing only 17 points per game over Oregon’s last five games. The Ducks are 3-0 SU and ATS in their last three bowl games.

The Rose Bowl total is set at 71.5 points at the sportsbooks. Seven of the last 10 Rose Bowl games have gone OVER the posted total.

With a 29-0 SU record over their last 29 games, the Seminoles clearly know how to win. Oregon will be a very unique challenge for the Seminoles and could end up overpowering them in a blowout. However, it seems more likely that Florida State will at least make this one a game, giving them good value as a 9.5-point underdog.
