Las Vegas plays host to the Rams and Utes for a pre-holiday bowl game.
The Colorado State Rams are in the midst of one of the most successful periods in program history, and they'll try to continue it when they face No. 22 Utah in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl. They'll face a Utah program on a high of its own in what should be a good game Saturday afternoon.
CSU was one of the more surprising teams in college football this year en route to a 10-2 finish that led to Florida hiring head coach Jim McElwain. He leaves behind a prolific pass-heavy offense led by senior quarterback Garrett Grayson ans sophomore wide receiver Rashard Higgins. Those two have hooked up 89 times for 1,640 yards and 17 scores, all of which are school records.
Utah was perhaps the biggest surprise in the Pac-12 this season, and Kyle Whittingham put together one of his stronger coaching jobs to make the Utes bowl eligible for the first time since 2011. Utah’s big victories came against No. 14 UCLA and No. 24 USC. The Utes are led by a strong ground game, and running back Devontae Booker rushed for 1,350 yards and nine touchdowns to help carry Utah to bowl eligibility.

Two things at stake
A win for Utah gets the Utes to 9-4 and ensures they’ll finish in the top 25.
A victory for CSU would be its 11th this season, tying the school record.
One big matchup
Garrett Grayson vs. the Utah secondary
The Rams run a pass-heavy offense, and senior QB Garrett Grayson has enjoyed a record-setting season while guiding CSU to 10 wins. He’s captured every career record in Colorado State history this year, and he has already broken his own single-season records for passing yards (3,779) and passing touchdowns (32) with this bowl game remaining. He ranks in the top seven among all FBS quarterbacks in 2014 in nearly every significant statistical category, and it will be tough for the Utah secondary to keep him and the rest of the Rams offense contained.
