A clash of styles will take place in Annapolis -- who will come out on top?
This will be the second year that the Military Bowl will take place in Annapolis. The game is now played at Navy’s stadium after five years at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., and Cincinnati will face Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon in this year’s iteration.
Cincinnati started the season 2-3 after consecutive losses to Ohio State, Memphis and Miami, putting an early damper on high expectations for Tommy Tuberville’s second year in charge. The Bearcats followed that up by simply running the table on the rest of their schedule, earning a share of the AAC title. Cincinnati recorded wins over East Carolina, Temple and Houston en route to their 7-1 conference mark.
Virginia Tech opened the season with a dominating victory of FCS William & Mary and a two-touchdown road win over Ohio State, vaulting the Hokies up to No. 17 in the AP Poll. Things quickly fell apart in the following two weeks for the Hokies, as they dropped home games to East Carolina and Georgia Tech. In their first opportunity at securing bowl eligibility, they dropped a 6-3 double overtime loss to Wake Forest in the worst game of the year. The second time around was more successful, as they beat Virginia 24-20 to grab that sixth victory.

The numbers
Rankings and records: Neither team is ranked. Cincinnati is 9-3, while Virginia Tech is 6-6. The all-time series between the two schools is tied at 5-5, with the Bearcats winning the last matchup in 2012.
Vegas: Cincinnati opened as 3.5-point favorites. The line has since moved to 3. The over/under is set at 51 points.
Weather forecast: High of 58 with possible rain.
Two things at stake
Virginia Tech needs a win to avoid their first losing season since 1992.
A win for Cincinnati would be their first bowl victory (and first 10-win season) under Tommy Tuberville.
One big matchup
Gunner Kiel vs. Kendall Fuller. Cincinnati's passing game was very good this season, led by the former blue-chip quarterback in the shotgun. Kiel threw for 30 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, averaging 8.3 yards per attempt and completing 60.2 percent of his passes in his first year with the Bearcats. The Hokies have one of the top cornerbacks in the nation in Kendall Fuller, who broke up 14 passes and returned an interception for a touchdown this season. If Virginia Tech can disrupt the Cincinnati passing attack, they stand a chance in this one.
