The Cards and Dawgs should put on a good show in Charlotte. Here’s how to tune in and what to watch for.
The 2014 Belk Bowl could quietly be one of the more interesting matchups of the entire bowl season, as the Georgia Bulldogs will face the Louisville Cardinals in a battle of strength against strength.
The Cardinals went 9-3 in their first season in the ACC, and the defense led the way. The Cards swallowed up the run, and allowed over 21 points only four times in 12 games. The offense wasn't overly explosive, but it didn't have to be thanks to the defense. The only player to watch for, especially if quarterback Reggie Bonnafon is healthy, is wide receiver DeVante Parker. Parker led the team with 35 receptions this season, despite only playing five games due to injury.
For Georgia, they move on without Todd Gurley, who tore his ACL on his first game back from an NCAA suspension. They have plenty of depth at running back with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, but those young runners will be tested by Louisville's stout run defense. If there was ever a game for Hutson Mason to come up big throwing the ball, this would be it.

The numbers
Rankings and records: Georgia ended the season at 9-3 (6-2 SEC), and ranked 13th in the country. Louisville ended the year at 9-3 (5-3 ACC), and ranked 21st in the country. This will be the first ever meeting between these two programs.
Vegas: Georgia opened as a seven-point favorite, and that line is now 6.5. The over/under is 57.
Weather forecast: 48 degree at gametime with no chance of precipitation.
Two things at stake
Louisville: A statement win. The Cardinals failed in close games against the two best teams on their schedule (Clemson and Florida State), so a win over Georgia would give them a big win over a big-time program. It wasn’t all that long ago that Louisville laid a beating on an SEC team in a bowl game, so maybe this is time for round two.
Georgia: Double digit victories. A win over the Cardinals would give the Bulldogs double digit victories for the third time in four years. They also have a shot to pick up that 10th win over former defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, something many Georgia fans would find some satisfaction in.
One big matchup
Nick Chubb vs. the Louisville front seven. Georgia may be without Todd Gurley, but Chubb is perfectly capable of dominating a game by himself on the ground. He'll have a tough task ahead of him though, in the form of Louisville's third-ranked rush defense. The Cards are giving up a hair over 93 yards per game on the ground in 2014, and if they can hold down the Georgia ground attack, they'll be most of the way to a victory.
