Texas A&M’s David Beaty to be new Kansas football coach, per reports

The Jayhawks have a new head coach, hiring former KU offensive coordinator David Beaty.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas is the next head coaching domino to fall, as they have hired Texas A&M wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator David Beaty as their head coach, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman and others.

Perhaps the best recruiter in Texas, Beaty has been instrumental in A&M's destruction of the Longhorns for in-state recruits. Per Rivals, he's secured commitments from five-star quarterback Kyler Murray, five-star defensive end Myles Garrett, and five-star wide receiver Ricky Seals-Jones. The Aggies have also produced high-quality wide receivers during Beaty's time, including first round NFL Draft pick Mike Evans.

Sound ideal? There’s more: before his time with the Aggies, Beaty was the Jayhawks’ co-offensive coordinator in 2011 and their wide receivers coach from 2008-09. Beaty was also the orchestrator of a candy-bar-for-blocking-plays campaign while in Lawrence.

He’ll have a tough job ahead of him in Lawrence, as the Jayhawks have struggled mightily over the past several seasons. They went 3-9 in 2014, and former head coach Charlie Weis was dismissed back in September. The team played better under interim coach Clint Bowen, but 3-9 is 3-9.

Before Beaty was hired, Ohio State offensive line coach Ed Warriner had been considered a top contender for the job.
