Dorial Green-Beckham, an All-American candidate in 2014 and a probable first-round pick in 2015, was dismissed from Missouri on Friday following another run-in with the law.
Gary Pinkel made right decision booting Dorial Green-Beckham from Mizzou
Pinkel dismissed arguably the best player on his roster on Friday. It was an ugly situation, but he handled it the best way possible.

The Internet had a lot of opinions on the dismissal, but there was one common theme from just about everyone: Gary Pinkel and the athletic department made the right decision. Here were some of the national writers’ takes on the situation:
I don't believe the vast majority of major college football programs would have dismissed DGB. Strong statement by Mizzou.
— Clay Travis (@ClayTravisBGID) April 11, 2014 SEC coach of the offseason: Gary Pinkel's handling of the Michael Sam and Dorial Green-Beckham stories has been rather stellar.
— Seth Emerson (@SethEmerson) April 11, 2014 Mizzou may have lost SEC title game, but Gary Pinkel leading league in handling tough issues: Michael Sam and now dumping DGB.
— Paul Finebaum (@finebaum) April 11, 2014 Not easy to release your most talented player. I applaud Mike Alden and Gary Pinkel for doing the right thing.
— Mike Hall (@BTNMikeHall) April 11, 2014 Surprised Mizzou decided to part ways with DGB, but I respect the hell out of the Gary Pinkel for making the right decision.
— Graham Watson (@Yahoo_Graham) April 11, 2014 Mizzou did what it had to do with DGB. Left the school no choice. Hate to see a young man screwing up what could be a bright future.
— Pat Forde (@YahooForde) April 11, 2014 Even the most loyal Tiger fans had to know dismissal was likely given Green-Beckham’s history with the police. It was a rough day, as you can imagine:
From our Mizzou blog, Rock M Nation:
If nothing else, this indeed sends a ridiculously strong message that when Gary Pinkel, Mike Alden, etc., talk about respect, respect for women, and respect for the university, they mean it. I was hoping there would be a happy ending to this story for him at Missouri, but people who know him very well decided that will not be the case, and it’s hard not to respect that. Good luck, Dorial.
And here are some of the reactions from the fans, including one person who thought DBG didn’t deserve being kicked off:
Not sure I've ever seen more #Mizzou fans more excited than day DGB committed on national TV. Really too bad to see it end this way.
— Gabe DeArmond (@GabeDeArmond) April 12, 2014 Some former Mizzou players also took to Twitter in wake of the dismissal:
Mizzou Football is and will always be a Family. NO ONE is above the Family!!!! We will stay true and honor our core values. Tiger Forever!!!
— Michael Sam (@MikeSamFootball) April 11, 2014 Best of luck to you DGB!!!
— Michael Sam (@MikeSamFootball) April 11, 2014 Would like this to be heard. DGB is a very nice, humble guy. Great dude that everyone likes. Made some bad decisions but doesn't change that
— T.J. Moe (@TJMoe28) April 12, 2014 He made some decisions and is serving the consequences, but it's hard to listen to people say what a bad guy he is when they don't know him.
— T.J. Moe (@TJMoe28) April 12, 2014 At the end of the day we are all human and make mistakes! I care more about the person than the athlete anyway!
