UNC suspends 2 starters, 2 backups for hazing, per report

The incident allegedly gave a freshman walk-on a concussion.

Four North Carolina football players were suspended for the Tar Heels’ first game against Liberty for their involvement in a hazing incident that gave a redshirt freshman walk-on a concussion. Yahoo Sports reported on Tuesday the school was investigating the incident, and although coach Larry Fedora reportedly said he is not sure if the investigation is complete, he felt suspensions were warranted.

Lawrence and Walker are the team’s two starting cornerbacks while Stewart is a second-string cornerback and Miles is a second-string “ram” defensive back. Obviously, this hurts the Tar Heels’ depth in the defensive backfield for the time being. While it shouldn’t be a problem against Liberty, it could hurt UNC if the players are suspended for any additional games.

According to the Yahoo report, the alleged “physical altercation” took place at the hotel the team was staying at in Chapel Hill during fall camp. Jackson Boyer, a walk-on wide receiver, reportedly received a concussion as a result of the altercation. Other than to make a statement that it has a strict no-hazing policy and was aware of the incident, the university did not announce any disciplinary action.
