Todd Gurley on Herschel Walker comparisons: ‘Me?’

The latest in a long line of Next Herschel Walkers can’t help but laugh at the legacy he’s building. Here he is with Scott Van Pelt.

Georgia Bulldogs running back Todd Gurley, the current Heisman Trophy front-runner, on the previous Dawg to win the award and the most beloved athlete in school history:

“He’s the greatest college football player to ever play the game. It’s no way you can set the bar as high as he did, unless you do what he did. And that’s gonna be pretty damn hard.”

Gurley dropped 298 total yards on Clemson in Week 1, a school record, and looks set to embarrass SEC East rival South Carolina.

Van Pelt asked him about another, equally lofty comparison, one made by UGA hero Fran Tarkenton: to Jim Brown himself.

“Just another great compliment. It is [hard to take that compliment]. Me? Jim Brown? Me? Herschel Walker? Me? Best college player ... I never dreamed of that. You wanna take the compliment in, but it’s like, ‘Nah, you’re not nobody. You still got work to do.’”
