Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen has come out in unequivocal support of center Dillon Day, who was removed from competition by the SEC for an upcoming tilt against No. 6 Texas A&M (MSU is on a bye this week).
Dan Mullen: ‘Completely disagree’ with SEC suspension of Dillon Day
The Mississippi State head coach sticks up for his center in the wake of (more) stomping incidents.

According to The Dispatch, Mullen left no doubt Tuesday night as to where his sentiments lie:
Asked his opinion of Day’s conduct, Mullen said “I didn’t see anything wrong with it.”
And when the subject changed to Day’s eventual suspension, Mullen added, “We completely disagree with the ruling that was given to us by the league, but we are going to follow the commissioner’s decision.”
Day’s suspension came after this seemingly deliberate stomp on LSU’s Davon Godchaux last week (and the second incident on the video below, while not as egregious, doesn’t exactly help matters):
Oh, and if the two incidents above aren’t enough, recall that Day missed half of the Troy game last year after another stomp, that one against Auburn in a 24-20 loss. Either Day is one of the unluckiest men alive re: people falling directly into his path, or this is becoming a pattern of behavior.
SB Nation’s Stephen White—formerly of Tennessee and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—was, um, less than impressed with the coach’s response:
Listen, I understand backing your player but thats horseshit. That wasn't tough what he did, it was cowardly. And if Mullen doesn't see

Anything wrong with a guy jumping in the air and stomping on their opponent to injure them then I would never want my kid playing for him

Mullen joins an impressive legion calling for a repeal of the SEC's one-week ban, including this Mississippi State petitioner, who ... oh god, no, that's not going to work.
And yet, even if Mullen’s response seems less than tasteful, do realize it’s not just one man’s opinion. Mullen evidently has the full support of his boss, AD Scott Stricklin, on this one:
@sbcmortgageman we spent all day Monday and Tuesday making our plea to no avail. It’s done
