Recruiting roundup: 6 teams with big Monday wins
Dozens of players committed Monday. These were the most important.

The only team to add a blue-chip recruit Monday, the Longhorns secured a re-commitment from four-star wide receiver John Burt. Burt had decommitted in early January after taking two visits to Auburn, and was originally expected to end up with the Tigers. Recent talk of the Longhorns’ change in offensive strategy helped change Burt’s mind, however, and the folks at Burnt Orange Nation are excited about his arrival:
In one play on his senior highlight reel, Burt makes a block, gets downfield for another, falls in the process, then gets up anyway and hustles in the hopes of making another before his teammate scores. That’s a defining play and it defines Burt in all the right ways.
I got a little teary-eyed watching it.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Here in this category by virtue of not being Michigan. Wolverines defensive line coach Greg Mattison attempted to flip three-star defensive end Daishon Neal, the top-rated player in the state of Nebraska, but ended up reportedly getting thrown out of his house after telling Neal’s father his son probably wouldn’t get into Michigan without football.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Texas may have gotten the day’s biggest commitment by recruiting rankings, but Dan Mullen and Mississippi State pulled off a pretty massive coup of their own. Former Alabama defensive tackle commit T.D. Moton announced he would sign with the Bulldogs, giving them another important piece on the defensive front. He originally committed to Mississippi State back in November 2013, then decommitted in January 2014 and switched to the Tide in June. After parting ways with Alabama just a few days ago, Moton has now ended up with his original school.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
It had been a bad week for Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech on the recruiting trail. Wide receiver and longtime commit Brandon Singleton re-opened his commitment Wednesday, and with how full the Yellow Jackets’ class is, no one was quite sure how many more players they’d be able to add. They added a bit of a surprise one Monday, when three-star local defensive end Anree Saint-Amour chose Georgia Tech over Stanford, Iowa, Michigan State and Minnesota.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Rutgers has shot up 10 spots to No. 52 in the 247Sports Composite rankings this week after receiving a pair of important commitments. The first was four-star Florida defensive end Marques Ford, who flipped to the Scarlet Knights from Tennessee Thursday. Monday, head coach Kyle Flood added another: three-star local safety Najee Clayton, who held offers from Florida, Iowa, Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh, among others.
Penn State Nittany Lions
James Franklin’s “dominate the state” plan seems to be working pretty well. The Nittany Lions flipped three-star tight end Nick Bowers from Pitt Monday, giving Penn State nine of the top 15 Pennsylvania prospects in the 2015 class. Of the six they don’t have, only two hold offers from the Nittany Lions. Black Shoe Diaries expects Bowers to redshirt:
When he does see the field, Bowers is a very talented pass catcher, as he spent time split out as a receiver at Kittanning. Bowers also has the body to be able to put his hand in the dirt and block, something John Donovan’s offense asks from their tight ends.
