It’s hard to believe that in one year, this game has gone from the worst game of the season to one of the biggest in Week 6. Michigan won 10-9 in 2014, in what became infamously known as the M00N game.
How to watch Northwestern vs. Michigan on TV or online, plus 3 things to know
M00N, part two?!
That was quite possibly the worst game ever played. It was a bad 10-9 -- one built on awful offense, not good defense. But oh my, how things have changed. After missing the postseason for two straight years, Northwestern is 5-0 and ranked No. 13 in the AP Poll. The Wildcats have struggled on offense, but their defense ranks as one of the best in the nation, holding Stanford, Duke and Minnesota to a COMBINED 16 points.
Meanwhile, after a season-opening loss to Utah, Michigan has been on fire. The Wolverines also have an impressive defense that has been on display in back-to-back shutout wins over BYU (31-0) and Maryland (28-0). Michigan is up to third nationally in the S&P+ ratings, and the offense is improving each week.
This game is in Ann Arbor, so we won’t get M00N again (though N00M is a possibility). And while there won’t be a lot of points scored in this one, it won’t be as painful to watch as last year.

Three big things to know
1. Both of these defenses are really, really good. The question becomes which offense can do more. Michigan has been more effective on offense, but the Wolverines haven’t faced a defense this good yet, and Northwestern has started to improve on offense in the past two games. The better offense could win out in this defensive slugfest.
2. Looking forward, we might have to stop laughing at the notion of Northwestern as a College Football Playoff contender if they win this one.
3. The games just keep getting bigger for Michigan. Win this, and the next week’s game against Michigan State becomes a monster matchup.
