Auburn held off Kentucky 30-27 on Thursday night in Lexington. The game had little in the way of real excitement, or even identifying characteristics, which is really bizarre considering how memorable basically every Auburn game has been over the past few years.
Not only is Auburn mediocre now, its games aren’t even fun
That was technically a football game.

The only really memorable thing that happened in this game was Auburn somehow deciding to go forward with punting despite Kentucky clearly having no idea what they were doing and fielding eight players on defense.
When did Auburn become so boring? What happened? The only truly memorable game they’ve been in this season was against Jacksonville State, an FCS team that took the Tigers to overtime.
Kentucky really should’ve done better here. They repeatedly settled for field goals rather than going for touchdowns, and in a game with slim margin like this, those decisions mean everything. Mark Stoops has done a great job overall at Kentucky, but his situational decision making cost the Cats here.
Even with the win, Auburn is still an astounding 7-7 since this time last year. That's not exactly the kind of record you would expect for a team that received substantial Playoff hype entering the season. Sean White, who's started the last three games for the Tigers at quarterback, was fairly efficient (17-27 for 255 yards), but he has still yet to throw a touchdown pass this season. Kentucky's pass defense this season isn't particularly good, but it's not totally ghastly either.
That stat’s made even more shocking when you consider how relatively ineffective Auburn’s run game was, averaging only 3.2 yards per carry. It’s not so much that Auburn stinks. They don’t. They’re just so ... average.
