Oklahoma is scheduled to take on Kansas State in Manhattan at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, but the Sooners’ travel party got a much, much later start than they wanted. KWTVs Dean Blevins was with the team all day, and his Twitter feed was a study in the most frustrating travel day you can imagine.
Oklahoma’s flight to Kansas State was so delayed, the Sooners could’ve just driven
Next time, take the train.

#Sooners off routine. Supposed to have walk-thru practice @KSU by now. Rather, plane on Tarmac since 2:40 w engine probs. 6 hrs late! #OU
— Dean Blevins (@DeanBlevins) October 16, 2015 #OU team sked to leave OKC 5 hrs ago. No word when back up plane to arrive. Could've driven 2 Manhattan by now. Team deplaned. I'm on board
— Dean Blevins (@DeanBlevins) October 17, 2015 Stoops and Co not happy campers. He told me "never had anything happen this bad--Had 2 drive from Lubbock once." pic.twitter.com/oIMm7HEjxj
— Dean Blevins (@DeanBlevins) October 17, 2015 AAR officials tell me this the 4th plane they've tried 2 have take #OU 2 #KSU. "4 mechanical probs...including one on its way" #Unacceptable
— Dean Blevins (@DeanBlevins) October 17, 2015 This is only a sampling of this tale of woe. I’m getting frustrated and impatient just reading these tweets. However, it sounds like things have finally come to a resolution.
8 hours & 16 mins after boarding, plane No. 4 has wheels rolling on #OU charter to KSU. Wonder how Bobby Knight would've handled? #Sooners
— Dean Blevins (@DeanBlevins) October 17, 2015 This story does have a conclusion though, and as of 12:45 a.m. ET, the Sooners were on the ground in Kansas. Hopefully they went straight to bed.
If OU wanted to make the drive, Google Maps puts the trip at about four and a half hours nearly due north. That’s not that bad, and had Oklahoma decided to cut bait with the planes and get some buses, they would’ve been at their hotel long before their plane took off from Oklahoma City.
Considering their late arrival, it will be interesting to see if the Sooners come out flat early against a presumably well-rested Kansas State.
