USC opens as a 3-point favorite against Utah

Vegas has confidence in the 3-3 Trojans.

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The upcoming week’s schedule is one of the worst of the season in college football, which is why GameDay has ditched FBS to put on its show at James Madison. That said, at least someone is expecting a big upset this weekend. Vegas has USC as a three-point favorite over Utah, according to OddsShark.

That’s 3-3 USC, which is on a two-game losing streak and just lost its head coach, as a favorite over a Utah team that is undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll. The Utes have had some scares, including against Arizona State last week, but they look like a much more complete team than the Trojans at the moment, and they’ve certainly done more to inspire confidence through the first half of the season.

But maybe Vegas is on to something. Despite its ranking and record, USC is ranked higher than Utah in the S&P+ ratings, and the Trojans are at home.
