UH OHHHHHHHHH. Miami fans have been seemingly irate with Al Golden since the day he first set foot in Dade County. They were mad enough to fly yet another "Fire Al Golden" banner over a football game despite the Canes entering at 3-0, but this game happened to take place in Ohio.
Al Golden’s no longer 3-0 and on the hot seat! Now he’s just plain on the hot seat.
Good morning! It’s your daily roundup of college football stuff.
Those fans are now even more hacked off after the Canes lost to Cincinnati on Thursday night, 34-23. Neither team played particularly well, but Cincinnati was able to make big plays (such as this magical teleportation touchdown) and Miami couldn’t.
So, my question at this point is whether the banners will increase in a linear or exponential fashion after each loss this year?
The debate of the day: Fire Golden, or replace him at Miami with Kayak-Eating Bear? EDSBS presents the arguments.
Weekend preview. The biggest matchup of the weekend is Alabama-Georgia, where the Tide should probably be the favorite. Elsewhere in the most meaningful games, the winner of West Virginia-Oklahoma has a good shot to win the Big 12 and a rainy night in Clemson could be an edge for the Irish.
It's gonna be wet. Due to the predicted path of Hurricane Joaquin, the Maryland-Michigan game has been moved from 8 p.m. to noon. If your team is playing a game somewhere on the East Coast this weekend, probably wise to expect a sloppy game.
Your full weekend viewing guide is here, with what to watch when, and this is a good Saturday with at least one great game in each time slot.
Also, prep for Iowa-Wisconsin as our Hawkeyes blog makes a new friend in Tabetha, The UW Sorority Girl. Her analysis is fine.
Plenty of time. Michigan State has ascended to lofty heights in the polls, but the No. 2 next to its name hasn’t really matched its level of play so far. Good news is they have time to get it together.
Remember the last really consequential Florida-Ole Miss game? The one that eventually turned Tim Tebow from a great player into a legend? It was the last Florida-Ole Miss game, period, but still.
Still might be low. The scoring over for Baylor-Texas Tech is a new betting record at 88.5, surpassing the 88 from Oklahoma State’s matchup with Baylor in 2012. Still think that may be a bit conservative.
Speaking of wagers. Bud Elliott’s got your 25 best bets for the weekend, led by Bama and Clemson in their big games.
“I DON’T LIKE IT. IT MAKES ME CRY.” This little Aggie really, really does not want to wear a Texas dress.
Hey, a four-star commit! Those don’t happen very often this time of year, but Wisconsin added a top Florida defensive tackle.
$$$$$$$$. Auburn re-upped its deal with Under Armour, and its new contract is worth an estimated $78.1 million through 2025. And speaking of Under Armour, it could be waiting in the weeds for Texas, who’s apparently hitting the market after negotiations stalled with Nike.
Another new bowl game gives us 41 for this year: the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl will pair Conference USA and the Mountain West.
