Butch Davis, Mario Cristobal the betting favorites to be Miami’s new coach

Could Miami bring back its former coach?

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Hurricanes are in the market for a new coach after firing Al Golden, and the odds for who will be the new coach are already out. Right now, former Miami coach Butch Davis is the leader in the eyes of Bovada.

Coach Odds
Butch Davis, ESPN analyst +175
Mario Cristobal, Alabama offensive line coach +350
Rob Chudzinski, Indianapolis Colts assistant coach +500
Justin Fuente, Memphis coach +550
Doc Holliday, Marshall coach +800
Greg Schiano, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach +800
Frank Wilson, LSU running backs coach +900
Tom Herman, Houston coach +900
Tommy Tuberville, Cincinnati coach +1000

Davis coached Miami from 1995 to 2000 and brought the Hurricanes back to their glory days that time, with a star-studded roster that included Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jeremy Shockey and many others. He left Miami to coach the Cleveland Browns and later became the head coach at North Carolina, before being fired for academic misconduct, despite later being cleared. His past success at Miami notwithstanding, Davis could be a bad choice for the Hurricanes.

Cristobal could be the best choice. Currently the offensive line coach at Alabama, he’s known as a star recruiter and knows the area well. He was previously the head coach at Florida International, pulling the school out of the cellar, but he was fired after two bad seasons.
