Clemson and Notre Dame are about six minutes from kickoff here in the Upstate. A few quick things:
Live from Clemson’s Memorial Stadium: It’s wet and Irish
1. It’s really, really wet. The rain has been steady for days, is steady right now and the doppler doesn’t show signs of stopping. The field here is one of best managed pieces of live grass in the FBS and wasn’t tarped at all. It’s actually in really great condition considering the rain.
2. It will be hard to see on television with ponchos galore, but there are plenty of Irish here. The scalpers were very disappointed with late-game walk ups - the logic was that visiting Notre Dame fans would surge towards game time. There are plenty here, but the scalpers I talked to expected many more. If you asked for a lower bowl ticket during “Gameday” this morning you would’ve been quote 2-3 times the actual price. That’s gone down throughout the day.
3. Hurricane be damned, this is a hard sellout and truly standing room only. But if Notre Dame can score early they could deflate this place. Nothing about sideways rain is fun unless the home team is up.
