Clemson leads Notre Dame 14-3 at the half, and for as bad as the Irish offense has been - especially on the ground - they’re only down 11. So while we’re about to have some fun with stats of DOOM about the Irish offense, they’re two scores away from the lead. It’s very much a football game, because only half of it has been played.
Notre Dame’s offense is in serious trouble, but they aren’t (yet)
1. CJ Prosise, you have 4 yards on 10 carries. That’s not good! Pretty much any run call from the Irish has failed miserably and cost ND yardage - Clemson has 5 TFLs.
2. Deshone Kizer had a 26-yard scramble on a pass play and leads the Irish with 33 total yards.
3. Notre Dame has five penalties for 30 yards. They’ve held a lot on offense, and did it once on a running play that still resulted in a tackle for a loss.
4. Clemson’s pass interference call on the second Irish drive allowed Notre Dame to stay alive long enough for a field goal.
5. Deshaun Watson is a respectable 6-of-12 passing for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns plus 51 yards rushing. Clemson came out quick and aggressive but have failed to score after going up 14-0 on their opening possessions.
Three of their four following drives were three and out, and despite the terrible Irish rushing stats, Clemson’s inability to put a third touchdown up might be the most foreboding action of the first half.
