Iowa State has had a pretty uneventful season, starting 2-5 with wins over FCS Northern Iowa and basically FCS Kansas. But that changed this week when the Cyclones fired offensive coordinator Mark Mangino for his apparent difference of opinion with coach Paul Rhoads. Rhoads told the media before telling this players, who were thoroughly confused. Oh, and the Cyclones are starting a new quarterback this week, going with Joel Lanning over Sam Richardson. So yeah, lots of change.
How to watch Texas vs. Iowa State on TV or online, plus 3 things to know
There’s a lot of weird heading into this game.
Still, that doesn’t mean ISU will be better off. And as one Texas player says, “Iowa State is not a very good team.”
The same could be said of Texas, as the Longhorns are 3-4. However, things are starting to look up for this young team, which has two straight wins against Oklahoma and Kansas State and now has a chance to get to over .500 with upcoming games against Iowa State and Kansas. Not only is the defense starting to be more consistent, the offense is starting to figure its identity, with a place for both quarterbacks Jerrod Heard and Tyrone Swoopes.
This will be an interesting game from two teams that are hard to trust. Will the changes help Iowa State, or will Texas prove it is improving?

Three big things to know
1. What on earth are we going to see from Iowa State after all these changes? At least there’s some hope now in Ames that things will change.
2. That said, offense hasn’t been Iowa State’s problem this year. The defense has to be better against Texas.
3. Can the Texas offense gain a little bit more momentum against Iowa State? It has the opportunity to put together three consecutive good games as the coaches further figure out their personnel.
