How to watch Rutgers vs. Wisconsin on TV or online, plus 3 things to know

Does Rutgers have a chance in Madison?

Mike Granse-USA TODAY Sports

Rutgers looked like it was finally gaining some momentum, getting both coach Kyle Flood and star wide receiver Leonte Carroo back, and completing a huge comeback win at Indiana. Then the Scarlet Knights ran into the buzzsaw that is Ohio State, and Brutus the Buckeye mocked them as they lost 49-7 at home. There’s nothing wrong losing to Ohio State, but Rutgers needs to make sure it doesn’t slide after such a demoralizing loss.

Wisconsin is going in the other direction. The Badgers lost quarterback Joel Stave against Illinois, but they staged a comeback behind backup quarterback Bart Houston. With an easy schedule ahead, Wisconsin looks like it has a chance to roll to 10-2, starting with this game.

That said, both of these teams have been inconsistent, and Wisconsin’s offense — which will likely have Stave back against Rutgers — hasn’t run anyone out of the building, while the Rutgers offense has been potent at times. Still, this could be an uphill battle for the Knights.

Three big things to know

1. Stave will likely be back for this game, which is good news for Wisconsin, though Houston proved against Illinois that he is more than capable. However, the Badgers have other injuries to worry about. Center Dan Voltz is out for the season, wide receiver Robert Wheelwright is out indefinitely and running back Corey Clement’s status is unknown. Where will Wisconsin get its offense?

2. The matchup between the Wisconsin secondary and Carroo will be fascinating. If Carroo can be successful, Rutgers has a chance. If not, it’s going to be a long day for the Scarlet Knights.

3. Wisconsin probably has to win out — and hope for help — if it’s going to win the Big Ten West. This is a must-win game for the Badgers.
