Ole Miss beats Auburn and declares, ‘We’re the Alabama state champs’

It’s been a while since the Rebels could say that.

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Ole Miss beat Auburn on the road on Saturday, 27-19. The win over the Tigers means Ole Miss has swept both Auburn and Alabama for the first time since 2003, and this year is the first time ever that Ole Miss has won both games on the road. That’s a pretty big deal, and it makes sense that the Rebels were feeling themselves a little bit after the game.

“It was a good SEC fist fight, You go on the road in this conference, and that’s what it’s going to be. This time of year, you just try to find a way to win them. I believe our kids just said we’re the Alabama state champs. We swept Alabama this year.”

That was Hugh Freeze speaking with the Ole Miss IMG Sports Network, but he wasn’t the only one saying it.

“We’re the Alabama state champs.” I mean, they’re not wrong. It may not mean much, though, if Ole Miss can’t parlay these results into an SEC West title. They’re currently in second place behind undefeated LSU.
