Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock has been knocked out of the Wolverines game against Minnesota, after a big hit that very well could have been called targeting. The defender hit Rudock in the head, which caused Rudock’s neck to bend and his helmet to go flying.
Michigan QB Jake Rudock knocked out of game by hit that sure could’ve been targeting
This rule is officiated inconsistently, to say the least.

Rudock sat up on the field and went to the locker room. He has not returned. This was the second big hit to the head on Rudock that was not called targeting. The previous hit looked like targeting to the letter of the rule.
Other plays with much less helmet contact have been called targeting, including one targeting call against Michigan in the Wolverines’ game against Michigan State. Earlier on Saturday, a Texas Tech player was ejected on a very questionable targeting call.
Nobody knows what targeting is.
