Utah’s All-American punter had his car stolen, returned after a crushing 48-hour ordeal

All-American punter Tom Hackett had his Subaru Outback stolen on Monday, reducing him to scootering through the Utah wilderness. Fortunately, he got it back two days later.

With hair like that, it’s easy to understand his concerns about having to wear a helmet.

Tom Hackett was the nation's best punter last year, but that didn't gain him any leeway with Salt Lake City's car thieves. His 2000s Subaru Outback went missing for two days, nearly forcing him to ride his scooter through a snowy Utah winter. Fortunately for the Utah Utes, it wound up back in his parking lot before it could throw a wrench in his preparation for Saturday's game against Arizona.

The 2014 Ray Guy Award winner raised the alarm on Twitter on Monday morning.

Soon after, one of Hackett’s neighbors spotted the vehicle, presumably while describing it as “one of the most college-looking cars you can find.” Apparently, whomever took it was interested in a trip to the Rocky Mountains.

Local news affiliate took KSTU took note and broadcasted Hackett's story to the greater Salt Lake City area. Their hook? That the All-American Australian was now going to be stuck on a two-wheeler throughout the bitter Utah winter.

Fortunately, after a tense two-day ordeal, “Basil” wound up back in the hands of his owner.

But was the car any worse for the wear?

Well that’s certainly good ne---wait. Basil is a girl’s name?
