This isn’t a big game on a national scale, as neither team is in the hunt for a Big 12 Championship. This game is more about bowl eligibility than conference positioning. However, both teams desperately need to prove to their fan bases that they are on the right path — that goes for the players and the coaches.
Texas vs. West Virginia 2015: Start time, live stream, TV schedule and 3 things to know
It’s the best Big 12 battle that doesn’t include the Playoff contenders.
Texas has been a mess all season. The Longhorns started the season off very poorly, but seemed to turn things around with wins against Oklahoma and Kansas State. Any optimism suddenly disappeared with a shutout loss to Iowa State, which was inexplicable by any standard. Then Texas came back and beat Kansas, but the Jayhawks probably have the worst team in the power conferences. So what can we make of the Longhorns? It’s tough to say, except for the fact that they absolutely need to start winning now.
West Virginia went the other way. The Mountaineers started the season off surprisingly well, with three straight wins in non-conference season. But then, after a blowout loss at Oklahoma, the wheels fell off against the Big 12’s top four teams. Now, with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU all behind them, the Mountaineers are gunning for that No. 5 spot in the Big 12. To do that, they will have to beat Texas.

Three big things to know
1. Which coach is on the biggest hot seat for losing this game? The answer is probably WVU’s Dana Holgorsen, but Charlie Strong could certainly use a win, too.
2. Can the Texas offense move the ball at all against the West Virginia defense? Texas has been very inconsistent this year, and the Mountaineers are better on defense than they’ve been in a while.
3. On the flip side, can the Texas defense take over? That unit has improved this year, but it’s struggled a bit more recently. If it can force some turnovers, the Longhorns have a chance.
